A B O U T

Rachel is an award winning composer, sound designer, pianist and musical director based in Melbourne, Australia. She graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Interactive Composition. Her work revolves around immersive theatre performances where sound interacts with the space and text, processive and texturally focused live ensemble work and ambient timbral synthesis. She is a keen multidisciplinary collaborator working extensively in theatre and live performance. 

Her notable work Orlando presented at fortyfive downstairs in late 2023 was met with critical acclaim, her work being likened to composers such as Brian Eno, Stephen Sondheim, Dave Malloy and Caroline Shaw.  

She has been nominated for many performing arts awards, and recently won a Green Room Award for Best Sound Design/Composition for her work on The Gospel Acccording to Jesus Queen of Heaven which additionally won Best Production. 

Rachel is also a keen educator and has worked with students both from the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Fine Arts and the Monash Performing Arts School.
